I am a 22 year veteran in the field of clinical social work--mental health is all I have ever done. It is truly my passion to work with those who suffer from mental illness and need assistance in finding their way to a healthy mindset and behavior. I have worked both inpatient and outpatient mental health in four different states. I began my clinical work as a children's therapist in community mental health and have practiced across the spectrum of mental health to now owning my own successful private practice with 7 other clinicians. I have focused my speciality over the last few years in the LGBT community. I currently treat a number of individuals who are transgender and offer a monthly treatment group for them as well. Additionally, I have strong skills in working with disempowered women and women who come to treatment from abusive situations. My clinical experience also includes working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, ADHD, marriage counseling, divorce recovery, and support for families of special needs children.
I feel I am a strong clinical supervisor because of the experience I bring to supervisees. My treatment experience allows me to share my knowledge of the multitude of mental illnesses I have treated and the techniques I have used with repeated success. Additionally, I have also been in a teaching position of students through Michigan State University Social Work program and have a clear understanding of what is required to teach the art of therapy and the human skill of caring for others.
Personally, I am a brutally honest person who takes seriously having a person under my supervision. I have an ethical responsibility to question, challenge, and help produce the strongest of clinicians in each person I supervise. Accountability, performance, and excellence is what I strive for myself professionally and as a supervisor.
